Lunardi: Gators in 4-6 seed range

Count ESPN.com bracketologist Joe Lunardi as someone who is bullish on the Gators.

Lunardi currently has the Gators projected as a 5 seed, but said it’s possible that UF could move up to a 4 seed if it wins the SEC Tournament in St. Louis. At 20-11, Florida has 10 quadrant 1 wins, the third most in NCAA Division 1 behind Kansas and North Carolina.

“I seem to be a little higher on the Gators than most,” Lunardi said. “I see some have them behind Kentucky, and I don’t see that, based on the head to head matchups (Florida swept Kentucky in two meetings this season). I don’t think they can get higher than a 4 seed, but I think they’re going to be in the 5-6 seed range.

“But they are another team that I think will be under-seeded in relation to their ability. I think they are a second weekend team.”

Lunardi said he’s not certain that UF will end up in Boise or San Diego, two sites where he currently has the Gators projected, but said, “The reality is the Boise and San Diego pods are not needed by any of the likely one, twos and threes. They’re all that’s left when you get to the fours and fives. It’s not like they’re being shunned, it’s they’re the only pods left. So if they’re a four or five, they’re traveling.
