Florida coach Mike White doesn’t mind that basketball analyst Seth Davis picked the sixth-seed Gators to lose to either 11 seed UCLA or St. Bonaventure on Sunday’s TBS Selection Show.
Davis picked against the Gators to be upset by 13 seed East Tennessee State last year and to lose two more times before finally getting his prediction right when Florida lost in the Elite Eight to South Carolina.
“I was appreciative of Seth,” White said. “He helped us last year. So we’ll use it again. Who knows how much of a factor it will be with these guys? These guys are hard to tick off. My guys, I’m not sure I’ve found the button that produces a bunch of edge, but we’ll throw it at the wall, for sure.”
Last year, White used the clip of the Davis prediction before Florida’s first NCAA Tournament game against ETSU. Behind 24 points from former Gator forward Devin Robinson, UF raced to an 80-65 win.
But White doesn’t know if playing a clip of the Davis blurb this time around would have the same impact on this season’s team. At 20-12, Florida has been consistently inconsistent throughout the 2017-18 season, going 6-2 against ranked teams while losing 10 games in which it was favored.
“These guys aren’t really animated,” White said. “Really, really nice guys, too nice of a group, really, I’d like to see this group one day tear up a locker room after we lose, but that’s not happening.”
