Former Gators Chris Chiozza and Devin Robinson are back playing together in summer league for the Washington Wizards.
And in the words of Peaches and Herb, reunited never felt so good.
Robinson had a team-high 24 points in 9 of 18 shooting for the Washington Wizards in their 95-90 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, while Chiozza posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.
The 6-foot-8 Robinson did miss a 3-point attempt that could have tied the game in the closing minutes, but otherwise dominated the game with his all-around athleticism on both ends of the floor.
“We believe in Devin,” Wizards summer league coach Ryan Richman told reporters following the game. “That’s the key. I think he knows we believe in him and we want to put him in situations that show that.”
Robinson was on a two-way contract with the Wizards and their G-League affiliate in Delaware last appearing, appearing in one NBA game with the big club. This summer, Robinson is hoping to make an impressive showing to land on Washington’s 12-man roster.
For Chiozza, UF’s all-time assist leader, the goal is to try to replace Robinson as Washington’s two-way player. After finishing with 5 points, 5 assists and 6 turnovers in his first summer league game, Chiozza improved in his second summer contest. Of note was Chiozza’s perimeter shooting as he went 2 of 5 from 3-point range, including a contested 3-pointer in the face of Spurs first-round pick and former Miami standout Lonnie Walker.
In other summer league action, former Gator forward Dorian Finney-Smith had 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Dallas Mavericks in their 81-78 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Former Gator swingman Egor Koulechov did not play in Minnesota’s opening summer league game Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.
